Jean Jullien, a multi-talented artist with an eminently recognizable brushstroke, is the creator of À la Mère de Famille's tenth Advent calendar.
Since 2013, the creation of the Advent calendar has been a major event for À la Mère de Famille, giving free rein to artists it admires (such as Sempé, Pénélope Bagieu, and Chris Ware) to interpret and bring its historic boutique to life.

This year, Jean Jullien dresses the house in his signature understated wit and humor. He has a gift for capturing everyday life and making people smile in the blink of an eye.
Jean Jullien was able to work by instinct and give free rein to his highly graphic style. Drawing on memories of his childhood, he uses color sparingly, thereby highlighting his mischievous characters and their expressive poses... Was he dreaming of this as a child?
For this tenth edition, the sequence of narrative scenes and the tasting of Maison chocolates and confections promise to fill the entire month of December with good cheer. And the major surprise hidden in box 24 should ease the pang of reaching the end of Advent. For those who have resisted, of course...
The tradition of the Advent calendar at À la Mère de Famille
"Nine years ago, we launched our first Advent calendar, one of the first artisan chocolatiers to offer one at the time! And since then, it has become an event we are particularly attached to. Because every year we have the immense pleasure of collaborating with talented artists who interpret and bring our historic boutique to life, with complete freedom to decorate this typically Parisian building, elegant and generously filled... As free as we are in creating the chocolates that fill it!"

The Advent calendar project as seen by Jean Jullien
"I collaborated with À la Mère de Famille on an exhibition project a few years ago and have kept an excellent memory of that collaboration. When they kindly asked me to design the anniversary Advent calendar for their iconic Maison , I was happy to do it. It is a fun format, and I loved the playful and narrative aspect that I was allowed to bring to this project. I hope people enjoy the chocolate Christmas monsters!" Jean Jullien
