Easter bells, a tradition rooted for centuries

Easter is the most important holiday in the Christian religion. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus three days after his death, and ends the 40 days of Lent. During these three days, church bells no longer ring as a sign of mourning. In France and Belgium, children were once told that the bells were going to Rome, and that upon their return, they would ring and sow eggs and treats in the gardens as a sign of joy. In the Protestant religion, it is the Easter bunny, a symbol of spring and renewal, who brings treats to children. In Germany, for example, children would make nests for the Easter bunny to lay eggs in during the night.

How has the Easter tradition evolved over time?

Since the 19th century and the democratization of chocolate, chocolatiers have taken over the Easter tradition. Chocolate bell: a whole family to enjoy!

All are filled with delicious chocolate treats: praline chocolate, praline eggs, dry fritures, praline fritures and other sweets.

Each recipe uses the best ingredients and cocoa beans selected by us, to obtain a paste and cocoa butter of exceptional quality. Depending on the desired flavors, we work on their balance with the natural aroma of Madagascar vanilla powder, the subtlety of caramel, the milky notes of skimmed milk or a hint of salt. When necessary, our chocolatiers integrate a touch of soy lecithin which ensures the stability of the recipe. The crunchy shell of our bells comes in three versions: intense dark chocolate, creamy milk chocolate and smooth white chocolate.

Bells as beautiful as they are brilliant

The brilliance and shine of our bells lies in the expertise of our craftsmen in terms of molding. They spray the inside of each mold by hand, that is to say, they spray it with a thin layer of cocoa butter. They then wait for it to cool before pouring several successive layers of cocoa paste until they obtain the desired thickness. The silhouette of our bells is adorned with the iconic cement tile that adorns the floor of our historic boutique at 35 rue du Faubourg Montmartre, in Paris, enhanced with a pretty bow in the colors of the House.

Its elegant curves conceal the House specialty, our irresistible praline made from French hazelnuts, almonds and Sicilian pistachios, made by our chocolatiers using ancient know-how. There is no question of taking the risk of not finding the bell of your dreams for Easter: so you want to get started early and avoid any risk of stock shortages? Don't worry! Kept at a temperature around 18°C, in their original packaging, protected from humidity, air and light, our À la Mère de Famille chocolates retain all their freshness for up to four months after purchase. Avoid placing them in the refrigerator, as this could alter their aromas.

After the Easter treat, do you still have a bell on your hands? How lucky! You can also eat your chocolates up to four months after purchasing them, making the pleasure last for several more weeks.
